Installing on Android

Install PADS in about two minutes.

PADS comes straight from this website rather than an app store. Android calls this sideloading. It’s safe when the file comes from a source you trust, and Android asks your permission once.

1

Download it on your phone

Open this page on your Android phone and tap Download PADS for Android. If Chrome warns that the file might be harmful, tap Download anyway. Chrome says this about every app that doesn’t come from an app store.

2

Open the file

When the download finishes, tap Open. If you missed it, open the Files app (My Files on Samsung), go to Downloads and tap the PADS file.

3

Allow your browser to install apps

The first time, Android says your phone isn’t allowed to install unknown apps from this source. Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then tap back.

4

Install

Tap Install. If Google Play Protect offers to scan the app, let it. If it says it doesn’t recognise the developer, tap More details, then Install anyway. The exact wording varies between phones.

5

Open PADS

Tap Open, or find PADS on your home screen. Then take your first five minutes, below.

6

Switch the permission off again (optional)

Go to Settings › Apps › Special app access › Install unknown apps, choose your browser and turn it off. Turn it back on when you next update PADS.

Updating PADS

Updates come from this page too. Download the new version and install it over the top, the same way. Your entries stay where they are. See what’s new.

Don’t uninstall PADS first. Removing the app deletes what’s on your phone, unless you’ve turned on backup. [Confirm with the developer how PADS tells people an update is ready.]

Latest version: 2.0.0, released 12 October 2026.

Make sure it’s the real PADS

Only download PADS from pads-app.com. We will never send you the app by email, text or WhatsApp. Every version is signed by us, and Android won’t install an update over PADS unless it carries the same signature.

If you want to check the file, its SHA-256 checksum is:

22cdc89c7cabae5e4479ef78738923fa2df88a93e57d166a93b90437ff4a192b

If it won’t install

  • “App not installed”: free up some space, check the download finished, and try again.
  • “Problem parsing the package”: the download was cut short, or your phone is older than Android 8.0. Download it again.
  • No Install button: the permission in step 3 is set per app, so allow the browser or Files app you’re actually using.
  • Work or school phone: your organisation may block apps from outside its own store. Ask them, or use a personal phone.

Getting started

Your first five minutes.

There’s nothing to set up before PADS is useful. Start small and add only what’s true for you.

1

Install and open

Follow the steps above, then open PADS. Everything starts private, on your phone.

2

Lock it

Turn on fingerprint or phone PIN unlock. PADS locks itself after a few minutes away.

3

Check in once

Tap the face that fits today. That’s it, it’s saved.

4

Choose Today’s Three, or skip it

Pick up to three things that matter today. You can always come back later.

5

Look around slowly

Open Life in View or the Toolbox when you have energy. Invite a mentor only if and when you want to.

What’s new

Version 2.0.0 · 12 October 2026

PADS 2.0 debug build of 9132924: Life in View, Where things stand, Steadying plans, Anchors, What matters, Words to keep, Money picture, Season review and Catch-up. Install on Android 8.0+; it updates over earlier pilot builds and keeps your data. Development-signed: not for public distribution.

Moving to a new phone

When you turn on backup, PADS gives you a recovery phrase. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe, away from your phone.

Your data is encrypted so that we can’t read it. That also means we can’t recover it for you without your phrase. We will never ask you for it.

Changing time zones

Each check-in and habit belongs to the local day you made it. Fly from London to Melbourne and past days stay as they were; reminders can follow either time.

Before you download

Is PADS really free?

+

Yes. Every feature is free to use. There are no adverts, no subscriptions and no sale of your data.

Is it safe to install PADS from a website?

+

Yes, when it comes from pads-app.com. The site uses a secure connection, every version of PADS is signed by us, and Android checks that each update carries the same signature before it installs. Please don’t install PADS from anywhere else, and don’t accept a copy someone sends you.

Do I need an account?

+

You can start using PADS privately on your phone. Backing up to a new phone and connecting with a mentor use your PADS account, which only you control. [Confirm account flow with the developer]

Does my mentor need PADS?

+

A mentor uses PADS to see what you share with them and to reply. Trusted contacts for the Talk button don’t need the app at all: PADS opens WhatsApp, Signal or your phone.

Is PADS suitable if I’m struggling?

+

PADS can help you set things down and reach people you trust. It isn’t therapy or an emergency service. If you’re in immediate danger, call 999 in the UK, 000 in Australia, or your local emergency number.
